Teriyaki One is bringing its fast casual Japanese menu to Jersey City’s Journal Square, taking over a long dormant storefront at 1 PATH Plaza across from the Starbucks location inside the transportation center. The Queens-based chain, which operates more than 20 restaurants across the tri-state area, is known for fresh, made to order teriyaki, bento boxes, poke bowls, and sushi rolls made without MSG.
What’s on the Menu
Teriyaki One’s menu covers a lot of ground for a quick service concept. Diners can choose chicken, beef, shrimp, or salmon, and the bento boxes come with sides like dumplings and vegetarian spring rolls. The poke bowls let customers build their own combination of proteins and sauces, and the menu rounds out with sides such as shrimp tempura and avocado salad. It is a good fit for a transit-heavy location like Journal Square, where commuters often want something quick that still feels like a real meal.
This location will be Teriyaki One’s fourth in New Jersey, joining existing spots in Rutherford, Union, and South Plainfield. An exact opening date has not been announced, but construction is already underway at the space.
Another Addition to a Growing Retail Lineup
Journal Square has been in the middle of a building boom for the past few years, and the transportation center itself has seen a steady wave of new retail tenants move in alongside its major overhaul. Starbucks, Jollibee, Wendy’s, and Taco Bell have all opened at the transit hub in recent memory, and Teriyaki One is the latest name to join that lineup. The station sees roughly 56,000 commuters pass through every day, which continues to make it one of the more attractive food and beverage locations in Jersey City for operators looking for consistent, built-in foot traffic.
